Rocket Launcher

One rocket. One crater. One very bad day for everyone standing near the crater.

Rocket Launcher

The Rocket Launcher is a heavy, rocket-propelled explosive weapon that appears across the Saints Row franchise. Classified as a heavy weapon in every title where it shows up, it fires a single high-yield rocket projectile that detonates on impact, dealing significant area-of-effect damage to enemies and destructible environment alike. It sits at the top of the single-shot weapon tier, trading rapid fire for raw destructive power.

In the Saints' world, the Rocket Launcher is the go-to tool when a fistful of pistols or even a minigun simply isn't enough. Whether you're clearing a gang stronghold, taking out a parked vehicle, or just making a point about property damage, one well-aimed rocket does what a hundred bullets can't. Its military pedigree makes it a natural trophy for a crew that has outgrown street-level armaments.

Lore & Background

In the Saints Row universe, the Rocket Launcher is the kind of weapon that belongs in a defense contractor's showroom or a black-ops staging area, not in the hands of a gang that started out stealing cars in Stilwater. Yet that is exactly where it ends up. The Saints, by the time they are relevant, have moved well past the neighborhood-thug stage, and their armory reflects that escalation. A rocket launcher on the back of a lowrider with a custom paint job is the visual shorthand for a crew that has outgrown the street and is now picking fights with organized crime, the military, or, in later entries, the entire fabric of reality.

The weapon's presence in the games mirrors the series' tonal escalation. In the first Saints Row, pulling out a rocket launcher feels like a genuine power spike—a moment where the player realizes the sandbox has teeth. By Saints Row: The Third and Saints Row IV, the Rocket Launcher is just one line item in a loadout that also includes a railgun, a time-stop ability, and an alien power suit. The weapon's role shifts from 'ultimate tool' to 'reliable heavy option,' but its core identity stays the same: you aim, you fire, and a chunk of the city is no longer a chunk of the city.

Culturally within the franchise, the Rocket Launcher carries a specific weight. It is the weapon you reach for when the mission is 'destroy the building' rather than 'eliminate the target.' It is the answer to a tank, a convoy, or a particularly stubborn wall. And it is, in the Saints' over-the-top aesthetic, the perfect complement to a crew that treats urban warfare as a form of creative expression.

In Their Own Story

The warehouse on 4th and Main was supposed to be a quiet hit. Two guards, a safe, out in ten minutes. But the guards had friends, and the friends had a truck, and the truck had a mounted gun, and now the whole block was a crossfire and the safe might as well have been welded shut.

"You want me to do the thing?" asked the driver, not looking up from the steering wheel of the lowrider idling in the alley.

"You want me to do THE thing?"

A long pause. The sound of bullets sparking off the brickwork. The smell of cordite and burnt rubber.

"Yeah," said the driver. "Do the thing."

The Rocket Launcher cleared the roof of the lowrider with a metallic clank. One shot. The warehouse, the truck, the three cars behind it, and roughly forty feet of sidewalk simply ceased to be load-bearing structures. The safe, by some miracle of physics the game's engine did not question, was still in one piece. The driver pocketed it, dropped the launcher back onto the roof, and put the car in drive.

"Next one?"

Reader's Guide

Saints Row (2006): The Rocket Launcher is available as a heavy weapon, typically encountered in the hands of military or high-level gang enemies and purchasable at select weapon dealers once the player has progressed far enough in the campaign. It is a single-shot, high-damage weapon with a noticeable wind-up before firing. Its splash damage makes it effective against groups of enemies and destructible cover, and it is the go-to answer to any armored vehicle. In the Saints' aesthetic, it represents the first real step up from street-level weapons.

Saints Row 2 (2008): Available at weapon dealers in Stilwater. The handling is similar—single rocket, large explosion, limited magazine. It pairs well with the game's destructible environments, letting the player carve paths through buildings or take out enemy vehicles from a distance. It is a staple of the heavy-weapon loadout.

Saints Row: The Third (2011): Sold at weapon shops across Stilwater as a standard heavy weapon. The Rocket Launcher fits squarely into the game's escalation of absurdity, sitting alongside weapons like the Railgun and the Minigun. Its role is unchanged: one big bang, one big mess, one very satisfied Saint.

Saints Row IV (2013): Remains available as a heavy weapon. In a game where the Saints are fighting aliens, gods, and the concept of time itself, the Rocket Launcher is the humble, reliable option for when you just want to make something explode. It is the weapon that says, 'I could use the time-stop, but I'd rather not.'
