The Zin
Four gangs own Stilwater. The Zin are the one you can't ignore.
The Zin are one of the four rival street gangs in the original Saints Row (2006), operating out of the city of Stilwater. Alongside the Ronin, the Filthy Few, and the Vice Kings, they form the entrenched criminal landscape the player's 3rd Street Saints must tear apart, block by block, to claim the city.
As a rival faction, The Zin control a home turf in Stilwater, field enforcers and muscle, and escalate their hostility as the Saints take territory. They represent the mid-tier threat in the game's gang hierarchy—tougher and more organized than street-level thugs but not yet at the level of the Syndicate bosses that cap each rival's structure.

Lore & Background
In the criminal ecosystem of Stilwater, The Zin carved out their territory through the same brutal, no-nonsense street logic that governs every gang in the city: control a block, collect the product, and put a body in the street for anyone who questions the arrangement. They sit alongside the Ronin, the Filthy Few, and the Vice Kings as the four pillars of organized crime in the city, each with a distinct identity, a home neighborhood, and a boss who answers to the Syndicate above.
The Zin's presence in the first Saints Row game is defined by their role as a mid-escalation threat. Early on, their enforcers are a nuisance—picking fights in the streets, ambushing the Saints in their turf. As the player's reputation grows, the Zin shift from opportunistic brawlers to coordinated hit squads, deploying heavier weapons and more numerous gangs to reclaim lost ground. Their boss, like those of the other three rival gangs, is the final target that must be taken out to fully dismantle the faction.
What sets The Zin apart from their three rival siblings is their specific flavor within Stilwater's gang landscape—a distinct visual identity, a particular neighborhood they call home, and a set of henchmen who fight with their own patterns and aggression. They are, in the grand scheme of the franchise, a first-generation rival: the template that later entries would expand, satirize, and eventually replace with more over-the-top factions.
In Their Own Story
The neon hum of Stilwater's evening traffic paints everything in sick amber. A Zin enforcer leans against a concrete overpass, chewing gum, watching the Saints' black-and-white muscle car screech into the block he's been holding for three days. His phone buzzes—boss's number. He doesn't answer. He's already reaching for the shotgun slung across his back, the one with the Zin's marking scratched into the receiver. The Saints don't do negotiations. They do bodies. And tonight, the overpass is going to get loud.
Reader's Guide
THE ZIN — GANG DOSSIER
Games: Saints Row (2006). The Zin are a first-generation rival faction, one of four gangs the 3rd Street Saints must dismantle to take Stilwater. They do not carry over as a primary rival in later entries; their role is that of the original template for the franchise's gang-warfare structure.
Role in the Saints' rise: The Zin occupy the mid-tier of the game's escalation curve. Their enforcers appear in the streets from early on, and their turf must be seized before the player can move up to the boss-level confrontation. Defeating their leadership is one of the four faction-clearing objectives that gate progression.
Key relationships: The Zin are peers to the Ronin, the Filthy Few, and the Vice Kings—all four answer to the Syndicate. They are direct rivals to the 3rd Street Saints and, by extension, to the player. There is no alliance, no truce; the only resolution is elimination.
Signature set-piece: The final confrontation with the Zin's boss follows the same structure as the other three rival bosses—a set location, a scripted sequence, and a gunfight that caps the faction's arc. It is one of four such set-pieces that collectively end the gang-war phase of the game.
Visual/voice notes: The Zin have a distinct color scheme and outfit style that differentiates them from the other three gangs in the open world. Their enforcers are identifiable by their gear at a glance, which matters in the heat of a 20-vehicle street chase when you need to spot who's shooting at you.
Did You Know?
- The Zin are one of only four rival gangs in the original Saints Row (2006); later entries in the franchise shifted to different rival lineups.
- In Stilwater, the four rival gangs each control a distinct home neighborhood, and The Zin's turf is one of the territories the player must liberate.
- The Zin, like all rival gangs in the first game, are ultimately answerable to the Syndicate—the overarching criminal organization that sits above the street-level factions.
- The Zin's enforcers are visually distinct from the Ronin, Filthy Few, and Vice Kings, allowing the player to identify hostile factions at a glance during open-world encounters.
