Taxi

The least glamorous way to cross Stilwater, unless you've got a paint gun and a grudge.

Taxi

The Taxi is a recurring civilian vehicle in the Saints Row franchise, appearing as a standard yellow cab that roams the streets of Stilwater across multiple entries. It occupies the lowest tier of the vehicle roster—outclassed in speed, acceleration, and armor by nearly every other drivable model—but its ubiquity makes it one of the most frequently encountered vehicles in the open world.

Functionally, the Taxi serves as a default, no-frills ride for the player when nothing better is within reach. In titles with deep vehicle customization (notably Saints Row: The Third and Saints Row IV), it can be resprayed, fitted with aftermarket parts, and given underglow, allowing a Saint to make a humble city cab look far less humble.

Lore & Background

In the world of Saints Row, Stilwater is a city that runs on its own chaotic logic, and the Taxi is one of its most persistent fixtures. Yellow cabs idle at curbs, weave through traffic, and occasionally get flattened by a rampaging muscle car or a helicopter's downwash. They belong to no gang, no faction, and no narrative arc; they are simply part of the city's ambient texture, the visual shorthand for a metropolis that is, beneath the chaos, still trying to function.

For the Saints, the Taxi is what you drive when the garage is empty, the wanted level is too high to risk a flashy ride, or you simply walked out of a bar and grabbed the first four wheels in sight. There is a particular, low-stakes humor in mowing through a police checkpoint in a dented yellow cab with a broken bumper and a generic pop song on the radio. It is the anti-Batmobile, the anti-Roc, the anti-everything that makes Saints Row cinematic. It is a Tuesday.

In the customization-heavy entries, the Taxi becomes a canvas. A Saint who has spent an hour in the garage can walk out with a matte-black cab, neon underglow, a roof spoiler, and a custom exhaust, turning the most ordinary vehicle in the city into a statement. The joke, of course, is that it still goes about as fast as it always did.

In Their Own Story

The rain had just stopped hitting Stilwater when you grabbed the cab off the curb on North Street. The driver was already gone, probably ran when the gunfire started three blocks over. You peeled out, the tires screaming on the wet asphalt, and the yellow paint picked up a smear of red from a fender you clipped at the intersection. The radio crackled to life—some old soul-searching track. You didn't care. You had a garage to get back to, a paint job to finish, and a reputation to keep. The Taxi hummed along, unimpressed, doing exactly what a Taxi does: getting you from here to there while the world caught fire around you.

Reader's Guide

Saints Row (2006) / Saints Row 2 (2008): The Taxi appears as a standard civilian sedan in Stilwater. Walk up to one and press the interact button to drive off. It is one of the slowest, least-armored vehicles in the game and offers no unique perks. Its role is purely functional: a free ride when you have no better option.

Saints Row: The Third (2011): The Taxi is again a common street vehicle. It can be customized in the garage with paint colors, wheel styles, spoilers, and underglow. Statistically it remains a low-tier sedan, but a fully resprayed Taxi with a roof wing and neon underglow fits right into the Saints' over-the-top aesthetic. It is the vehicle you grab when you need to get somewhere fast without drawing attention to a more expensive ride.

Saints Row IV (2013): The Taxi carries over as a civilian vehicle in Stilwater. The same basic customization options apply. In the alien-invasion context of this entry, a yellow cab weaving between laser fire and mutant hordes is about as grounded as it gets.

Saints Row (2022): The reboot retains the Taxi as a common street vehicle in Stilwater. It is drivable, customizable, and occupies the same low-tier niche. Its presence reinforces the city's lived-in, slightly run-down feel beneath the neon and the chaos.

Across all entries, the Taxi's role in the Saints' aesthetic is one of contrast: the most ordinary vehicle in a game full of the most extraordinary ones. Making it look ridiculous is the whole point.
