Respect Currency

The measure of your power, the key to unlocking the full potential of your criminal empire.

Respect Currency

Respect is a scoring system in Saints Row 2 where the player earns Respect points to unlock missions and progress through the storyline. The player can partake in storyline and stronghold missions only after filling up at least one bar of Respect, and Respect points are removed when the player starts a mission. The 'style rank' is a modifier of how much Respect the player can earn; this is increased by purchasing items for the player character.

Lore & Background

Respect points can be earned in two ways: by progressing through side-missions called Activities and by completing mini-games and stunts called Diversions. Many of the game's Activities made appearance in Saints Row and a variety of new Activities have also been introduced in the game. Examples include an underground fight club, though the source does not specify further details on that activity. The Respect system directly gates story progression, as missions are unlocked by trading in Respect points, currency earned by completing minigames and side-missions.

In Their Own Story

The neon lights of Steelport flicker as the notification chimes on your HUD. Another turf battle won, another rival gang leader silenced. The number in the corner of your vision ticks upward: Respect gained. It is a cold, digital validation of the chaos you just wrought, yet it feels warm. With this new currency, the doors to the next tier of power swing open. The city bends slightly more to your will.

Reader's Guide

Respect serves as the central progression gate in Saints Row 2. Players earn Respect points by completing Activities (side-missions) and Diversions (mini-games and stunts). The 'style rank' acts as a modifier for how much Respect the player can earn, and this rank is increased by purchasing items for the player character. To unlock a story mission, the player must fill up at least one bar of Respect. When a mission is started, Respect points are removed from the player's total. Without sufficient Respect, core story missions remain locked, so players must actively engage with the open world's Activities and Diversions to ensure they can continue the main storyline.
